For more than forty years Chris has been sharing what he has learned with folks of all ages and has tremendously enjoyed seeing lots of people who had never carved previously pick up the branch-carving idea and run with it.
Besides all of the informal, spontaneous teaching sessions, he has done countless demonstrations and programs in a wide variety of settings: schools (universities, high schools, middle schools, elementary), camps, church groups, service organizations, scouts and other youth organizations, conventions
...to name some.
An average program/demonstration takes between 40 minutes and an hour and moves at about 120 miles per hour! No one falls asleep! Besides showing lots of different things that can "hatch" from a branch or scrap of wood with the help of a sharp pocketknife, Chris carves a rooster and a flower and gives
both away. He has a fun, fair way of doing that, so everyone gets a chance.
ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE DAYS IN SCHOOLS:
These can involve up to six sessions in a school day, each taking a full class period. If the demonstration room is large enough several class groups can be combined. Besides doing the actual demonstration and program, Chris makes available to the school a copy of his two-sided instruction sheet so a copy can be given to each student.
Generally, these artist-in-residence days are limited to the period from November through March, when Chris is not committed to carving and demonstrating at his shop at the Amish
Farm and House in Lancaster, PA. Anyone interested in more information can call 717-299-5955 or e-mail cslub@comcast.net.
Chris has also done many programs for home
school groups...sometimes a single assembly type program, other times a mini-workshop.
